What is Paint Correction?

Paint correction is the art of being able to identify, correct and restore the paint. There are a wide variety of paint defects such as: swirls, scratches, scuffs, holograms, buffer trails, oxidation, sanding marks, marring, etching, staining, paint failure and more. It takes a skilled technician to know what defects can be removed and how to remove them without damaging the paint or causing more defects. There are hundreds of different types of pads, polishers and compounds; having the proper training, skills, expertise and experience in knowing what combination to use is key to achieving the desired outcome. There's a science to paint correction with many factors to consider. If you use a cutting pad with a polishing compound at a high speed you can get what we call buffer trails or holograms. These are common mistakes made by new detailers or car dealerships. When they finish buffing your vehicle it might look good in low lighting or in the garage, but when it's in direct sunlight or at the right angle, you can see the holograms and buffer trails. The good news is that this is fixable and can be corrected with proper paint correction. A skilled technician or detailing company like Harris Dent & Detail, LLC, can fix this issue or better yet do it right the first time. After all, there's only so much clear coat on your vehicle, and the more it's buffed the more clear coat gets removed. The more clear coat that's removed increases the risk of burning through the paint.  As a result, it would need to be repainted. Repainting can devalue your vehicle by being reported on your CarFax. No aftermarket paint job is as good as the paint your vehicle gets from the factory. Don't just trust anyone to do a paint correction.  Make sure they have the proper credentials, like Harris Dent & Detail, LLC.

Paint Correction Levels

Yes, paint correction has different levels to it. The levels depend on: how much correction your vehicle needs, what over all look you want to achieve and your budget. There are 3 standard levels associated with paint correction 1 - 3. If you're looking for something a little more, then we offer 2 higher tier levels.

Level 1

Request pricing

(1 - 2 days)

Level 1 paint correction or 1 step correction is what you would get if you have little to no paint defects or have a lot of paint defects, but are ok with only removing about 50% of them.  A level 1 correction is more of a quick polishing/ buffing/ paint enhancement, it's also the starting correction needed for a ceramic coating.

Level 2

Request pricing

(2 - 3 days)

A 2 stage correction that will roughly remove 80% of paint defects. This level has 2 parts, cutting and polishing. The 1st step will level most paint defects by adding micro swirls into the paint prepping it for the next step. Step 2 is smoothing and polishing. This step removes the swirls from the cutting step while leaving a gloss finish.

Level 3

Request pricing

(2 - 3 days)

A 3 stage correction will remove up to 90% of paint defects. This level has three parts. Cutting, polishing and finishing. The finishing step adds more gloss, depth and a smoothness to your paint. This is the recommended level to be paired with a ceramic coating. This level will make your vehicle look extra smooth, extra glossy and add depth.

Level "R"

Request pricing

(30 plus hours)

You read that right, Level "R". This is the ultimate paint correction that restores, revamps and rejuvenates your paint. This level removes up to 100% of defects. This level includes wet sanding, wet sanding cuts into the clear coat, sanding it down slightly to level out all defects & orange peel. After this is done the level 4 paint correction process is performed to deliver an almost perfect paint job with a mirror like finish.
